Badminton String Categories Explained

Badminton String Categories Explained

The four string categories (Repulsion, Control, Durability, Balanced) explained with gauge ranges, feel, and real examples. A starting point for deciding which type fits your game.

How Categories Work

String manufacturers classify each string based on its highest-rated characteristic. However, you should always look at all 5 ratings — a string in the Repulsion category may also score highly on control.

Repulsion (Power) Strings

Best for attacking players, rear court doubles players, and aggressive singles players who want maximum shuttle speed. Typically thin gauge (0.68mm or below) with high repulsion scores but lower durability.

Choosing by Playing Style

If you smash hard and play attacking: Repulsion. If you play precise net shots: Control. If you break strings often: Durability. If you want one string for everything: Balanced.
